When asked about her favorite parts of being a dentist, there’s almost too many things to list for Dr. Papageorgiou! She loves being a part of improving a patient’s overall health and teaching them about the connections between oral wellbeing and systemic wellbeing. She also greatly enjoys watching families grow over time in her dental office and being able to build a strong sense of trust that results in amazingly individualized treatment! Why Did You Want to Become a Dentist?
As a child, Dr. Papageorgiou really looked up to her childhood dentist, who was also a close friend of the family. All of the time she spent in the woman’s dental office was pleasant and memorable. As a result, she always thought of dentistry in a positive light – and when it came time to choose her own career, those early experiences led her down a path that she’s still happily on today.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Papageorgiou achieved her dental doctorate at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. She then completed a General Practice Residency at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Over the years, she has been regularly honored by academia, receiving awards like:
Pierre Fauchard Academy Award for Excellence in Clinical Dentistry
First Place in the American Association of Dental Research (Chicago, IL)
Second Place in the International Association of Dental Research (Chiba, Japan)
First Place Award from Special Care Dentistry Association
After coming to Massachusetts, Dr. Papageorgiou taught many dental students about crown and bridgework at Boston University and also served as the dental director of the South Boston Health Center. Today, she has been a practicing dentist for over two full decades! She still regularly attends continuing education courses from highly regarded institutions like Spears Education and the Pankey Institute. She is a proud member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, Metropolitan District Dental Society, and the Massachusetts Dental Society.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Papageorgiou is happily married to Demetrios, and they have multiple children, the oldest of whom is heading to college. When it comes to hobbies, you can usually find her reading anything she get her hands on (especially biology-related books), volunteering at her kids’ school, playing tennis, running, biking, and gardening.
